The Mayan Riviera or Riviera Maya including Playa del Carmen,

is becoming one of the most popular tourist destinations in Mexico. It is located south of Cancun and is a little more protected from weather. The 2005 hurricanes did little damage to this area compared to Cancun and Cozumel. The island of Cozumel protects much of this coast.

beach scene at Tulum The towns generally included in the Mayan Riviera are: Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, Akumel, Kantenah, Puerto Aventuras,Tulum, Xpu Ha, Punta Bete, Punta Maroma, and Xcaret.

It used to be a quiet sparsely settled area, but now many fine hotels and destination resorts can be found along this coast. There are many condos available for rent too. It is still much more laid-back than Cancun.

Playa del Carmen is the central town and it is growing quickly into a major tourist destination. Great tourist shopping can be found here, and water sports of all kinds are readily available.

Xcaret is a wonderful place to visit for a day. At Tulum you can view the ruins of the only coastal city built by the Mayans.

Plan a memorable All-Inclusive Riviera Maya vacation today and enjoy the beauty of Mexico.
