This page covers the area from Tijuana to Ensenada, including the community of Rosarito Beach. Ensenada is located a little more than one hour south of Tijuana by four lane divided toll highway. Duty free shopping, very low prescription drug prices, nice beaches nearby, and friendly people, make Ensenada a very popular destination for many Californians, particularly since the legal drinking age is only 18 years! Education is big in Ensenada as it has the campus of the University of Baja California, the National University of Mexico's Institutes of Astronomy and Physics, a private School of Medicine, and a number of private research centers.
Many of the residential areas are gated communities much like the communities north of the border. Most of the American residential areas are beachfront properties at prices much lower than state side. The beach here is one of the finest in Mexico. The population is estimated at 85,000 with perhaps 25,000 North Americans.
CLIMATE:
SHOPPING AND SERVICES Many stores featuring Mexican handicrafts can be found in Ensenada, and the pace is not as hectic as Tijuana. Ensenada is still in the Duty-Free zone. A full range of personal care services, financial institutions, and legal advice is also available. DINING
