Paper People Art: Mexico Art

Paper people art is indigenous to the central highlands of Mexico. They are created from newspaper and paper mache-like pastes on wire frames, and then hand painted.

I was able to purchase 20 of these figures for only $1 US each. It will cost more now! You can find them in many places now, but the Ajijic/Guadajara area is still probably the best place to get a bargain.

This is typical of the art form. Some of the figures are male, some female. They are usually depicted doing something common, like fetching wood or water, selling produce, or carrying babies.

I have given away most of my paper people but still have these two guys.
