Cozumel Island

Cozumel is Mexico's largest island measuring 28 miles by 10 miles, and it is located approx. 12 miles off the coast of the Yucatan peninsula near Playa del Carmen.

It is famous for it's white sand beaches and very clear water ideally suited to scuba diving and snorkelling. The water and reefs around Cozumel have been declared an underwater marine park to protect the environment. Numerous underwater limestone caves are also found in these crystal clear waters. There are many dive operators to help you enjoy these activities.

Getting there: There are several direct flights to Cozumel and you can catch one of 8 daily 'island hopper' flights from Cancun airport. You can also take an air conditioned, comfortable water jet boat from Playa del Carmen on the mainland. The best way to get to Play del Carmen is to take a bus from Cancun.

Cozumel Island is only 35 miles from Cancún. It is fast becoming a retirement center, with many condominium developments. It is more peaceful and relaxed than Cancún. The permanent population is estimated at 90,000.
