Oaxaca city is one of the most beautiful colonial cities in Mexico. It is in an area rich in local native handicrafts and colonial architecture, and this attracts many tourists.
Like the other colonial cities of Mexico, it is located on a high plateau approximately 5,000 feet above sea level, which gives it an ideal year-round climate.
In and around this city you can experience magnificent 16th century architecture, excellent museums, distintive cuisine, and ancient ruins. The Plaza de Armas, is a thoroughly Mexican main square.

While Oaxaca city is the capital with approx. 250,000 inhabitants, the state of Oaxaca extends to the Pacific coast and includes Puerto Escondido and Bahias de Huatulco. This coast features many beautiful beaches, with great swimming and fishing areas and some of the best surfing in Mexico too.
