Puerto Vallarta malecon scene Puerto Vallarta is fast becoming an international tourist destination. Around 50,000 tourists arrive every month by air, and thousands more by cruise ship, cars, and buses. Development is rapidly expanding north and south of the city, allowing the main downtown area to maintain its village atmosphere. It is a picturesque city with cobblestone streets, and whitewashed buildings. North of Puerto Vallarta can be found Marina Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit, Bucerias and Punta Mita, all becoming major development areas.

picture of the puerto vallarta Malecon Puerto Vallarta is a city squeezed between palm covered mountains and the sea. This has restricted development to a north-south strip along the water. The mountains generate cooler breezes at night, so the summer climate is more bearable than further south. Puerto Vallarta's weather is gorgeous in the Winter, and that is why it is a popular winter resort and 'snow bird' retiree location. The population of Puerto Vallarta is estimated at 350,000. There are more than 33,000 hotel rooms to accommodate the many tourists.

Direct flights from many North American cities make it easy for tourists to come to Puerto Vallarta. Thousands of these tourists have now decided to make this area their home, and they call the city PV. English is spoken everywhere. There are English language newspapers, supermarkets like many in the US or Canada, and world class restaurants. The ocean water is like bath water much of the year, and just warm the rest of the time.

Mon, 08 Feb 2010 22:52:36 UT Xiutla Founders Share Their Knowledge
a-xiutla-dancers

Municipality Dance Troupe Xiutla is not only an important cultural institution in Puerto Vallarta. Fifteen years after its inception, it is becoming a hotbed of folk dance teachers. Such is the case of siblings Carina and Luis Enrique Mendoza Rodriguez, ages 26 and 20 years old respectively, who have been members of the group for 14 years, and as such, are considered founding members.

Carina has been teaching for seven years and really enjoying this activity because she wants to consolidate herself as a teacher. When the new Xiutla Dance Academy project becomes a reality, she looks forward to being part of the instructor team. In contrast, Luis never expected to be a teacher, but greatly enjoys sharing his knowledge with others. He also instills the love for the group in children, whenever possible, very much like his sister. "The group has to continue even when the founders leave. That is the dream of our teacher, to have formed a group that remains strong."

For the Mendoza Rodriguez brothers, learning, harmony and love they have received from professor Enrique Barrios, have been the key incentives to remain in the group this long. "Dreams do exist and can become a reality when you really try. I'll be grateful to my teacher all my life because I have fulfilled all my dreams in the group," says Carina. While Luis said "I went in very young and the teacher saw me grow, taught me many things. For example, not to be envious of others because nobody is perfect."
